Family background:  Madonna was born in Bay City, Michigan. She was the third child of six in a strict Roman Catholic family. His father, Silvio Anthony “Tony” Ciccone (b. 1931), was a first-generation Italian American and his mother, Madonna Louise Fortin (1933 – 1963), was of French-Canadian descent.
Education: She attended St. Frederick’s and St. Andrew’s Catholic Elementary Schools, West Middle School, Rochester Adams High School and the University of Michigan School of Music.
Career highlights:  She moved to New York City in 1977, for a career in modern dance.  After performing in the music groups Breakfast Club and Emmy, she signed with Sire Records (Warner Bros. Records).
She released her first album, Madonna, in 1983. Her next famous albums, Like a Virgin (1984), True Blue  (has sold 25 million copies),  Like a Prayer  were a great success. Madonna’s thirteenth studio album, Rebel Heart, was released in March 2015.
