Manning attended the University of Tennessee, where he was the starting quarterback for four years.

On December 27, 2004, he broke the record for most touchdown passes in a single season with 49. His amassing records, especially an NFL record 49 touchdowns, breaking Dan Marino’s previous record of 48 set 20 years earlier, led to Peyton Manning winning his MVP award. Thus he was named Most Valuable Player in the NFL second straight for both the 2003 and 2004 seasons.
During his 2005 season with the Colts, Manning came in second in votes for the 2005 MVP award.

After undergoing neck surgery that forced him to miss the entire 2011 season, Manning was released by the Colts and signed with the Denver Broncos.
From 2012 to 2015, he contributed to the Broncos reaching the top of their division each year and his playing career concluded with a victory in Super Bowl 50.

Charitable activity. In 1999 he created the PeyBack Foundation, the goal of which, "is to provide leadership and growth opportunities for children at risk." As of 2005 the foundation has donated over $900,000 to children's programs in Indiana, Tennessee, and Louisiana. Manning participates personally in the majority of the foundation's initiatives. Peyton and his wife made a donation of an undisclosed amount to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. On September, 2007, St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis renamed its children's hospital to "Peyton Manning Children's Hospital at St. Vincent."
