Family background: Yu Wenxia was born on 6 August 1989 in Shangzhi, Heilongjiang in northeast China. She was the second of two daughters to farming parents. Her parents were both farmers and sent her to a good school to receive a good education
Education: She graduated from National Vocal Music at Harbin Normal University College of Music.
Career highlights: On 30 June 2012, Yu was crowned Miss China 2012 at the Jinhai Lake Resort in Beijing and on 18 August 2012, Yu won the 2012 Miss World. During her reign as Miss World, Yu travelled to many countries in Europe, America and Asia.
Personal life: She is very close to her sister who is two years older. Wenxia hopes to be a music teacher. She describes herself as someone who follows her dreams with a smile.
Interests: She speaks English, and loves to play the piano, go hiking, dance, sing and travel. her favourite food is dumplings.
After winning the award, Wenxia said that she hoped to use the crown to make children around the world feel lucky.
